Today I want you to meet my sweet and amazing friend Jennifer Rothschild. Jennifer is a wife, mom, national speaker, founder of WomensMinistry.net and author of several books, including “Self-talk, Soul-talk: What to Say When You Talk to Yourself“ as well as “Me, Myself and Lies Bible Study.“
She is also speaking with me on the Girls GetAway Cruise in October {and we’d love for you to join us!! – more details below}. For now, turn up your volume, click on the arrow and join us for some girl-talk:
- Recognize – Recognize if your self-talk matches up with God’s thoughts.
- Refuse – Refuse any self-talk that is not consistent with God’s words.
- Re-phrase – Re-phrase negative thoughts to align with scripture. Tell yourself the TRUTH, and nothing but God’s truth!
When we take these 3 steps, God begins to erase negative self-talk and lies. Speaking of erasers, Jennifer needed one that morning. Before we met, she bent over to pick something up, and hit her eye on the edge of the desk. {Cringe} She had a video shoot that afternoon, and a lovely black eye. So, I whipped out what I call my “magic eraser” makeup and covered it up. Look. You cannot even see the deep dark purple mark under her eye.

I shared the video on Twitter. I tried to share on Facebook but couldn’t for some reason. Thank you and God bless you.
Connie says
I shared this on my Facebook account. I tend to have a lot of negative self talk. Most of mine stem from thinking that others do not truly care about me. I know that the root is being sexually abused as a young girl. It is amazing, IF we do not turn those areas of our lives over to God they will haunt us for years. That has been over 40 years ago and I am still effected today. Perhaps others can share on how to let go of the negative self talk. THank you so much for sharing.
Lynne says
I shared the link on Facebook and already receive the email updates.
I appreciate the reminder about self-talk because it is one of the areas I really struggle with. It is something I have to continually work on. I like the idea of using the 3 R’s: Recognize, Refuse, Re-phrase.
Linda S. Aranda says
I never was told the positive words in my life and now I know that I have to believe that God really loves me and wants me to know that. I am working at saying what God says about me and I am starting to realize more and more that when those thoughts come, I can speak what God says about me and take authority over the negative words in my life. I love what you all said on the video. Thank you for sharing and helping us to see that we all have a purpose and that I can be who God says I am.

What an encouraging woman and message. I ‘found’ Jennifer several months ago online and was so encouraged by her message of ‘self talk’. I still need to buy her book “Self Talk, Soul Talk”, which I perused. Her message reminds me so much of your book, Renee, A Confident Heart. Of telling yourself the truths about what God says about us, and not listening to the lies of the enemy. I will put her 3-word self-talk process in my memory bank, and incorporate it along with all the great truths I’ve learned from A Confident Heart!
I am emailing this to my daughter!
Much love and thankfulness to you both!
Jessica says
I have emailed a few of my friends that deal with these negative thoughts. I am so guilty of doing it myself and is so encouraging to read this and see the video. I hope that over time I am able to “erase” these negative thoughts and replace them with God’s truths.
Aveline says
I praise and thank God for having spoken to me through you, Jennifer and Renee. 🙂
Renee, your book has always been a source of encouragement and enlightenment to me. It’s definitely one of a kind. Looking forward to reading more of you. 🙂
Jennifer, you have always been an inspiration and a God-given example worth emulating. Your God-inspired outlook in life motivates me to always regard my blindness not as a burden to carry and to worry about, but as a blessing to share and to thank the Lord for.
I will treasure in my heart the 3 R’s, and commit to Recognize my thoughts that don’t align with God’s thoughts, Refuse self-talk that doesn’t agree with what God says, and Re-phrase negative self-condemning thoughts with God-centered and “God-fident” truths. That’s exactly what I need to be reminded of and to live by every single day.
I’m so blessed that I can’t keep myself from sharing the link to this wonderful post with my Facebook and Twitter pals!
It is also my honor to be subscribed to the mailing list.
Keep it up, dear sisters in Christ. 🙂 You are blessed and loved. May you never rest in serving our great God.

Thank you Renee and Jennifer for this great video, it’s amazing what negative words can do to us, to our children. I have written the 3 R’s down and will carry them in my purse, and in my heart…there are so many unhappy people in the world and say so many negative things to us, I have made it a point to just close my eyes and pray for them, we need to be equiped with God’s word and the three R’s always. Through this study I have grown so much and I am now able to process negativity, more positively with God’s word. I have been telling my daughters about this study and it has had a positive impact in my home with my husband and my children. I feel so blessed.
I gave this book to my older daughter when I stared the study, she started it and then stopped, but has started it again three days ago, she is approaching chapter four again (where she stopped last time), Please pray that she will continue this time and find as much peace and I know I and alot of sisters have.
I posted the link on my facebook timeline and emailed it to six ladies on my email contact list.
Recognize – Refuse and Re-phrase…Amen
Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
God bless all of you beautiful sisters, we are blessed to be God’s Masterpiece..

I enjoyed today’s message. I struggle constantly with negative self-talk and taking things others say about me way too personally. It would be wonderful to have the book to read! In all honesty, I don’t want the gift card. Target supports gay pride festivals and other gay causes so I have chosen not to shop there anymore. Not any easy choice because I like Target, but one God convicted me to make. Blessings to you Renee and Jennifer and please contiue the encouraging messages! You are making more positive impact than you know!!
Em says
Laura, I have a difficult time with negative self talk and taking things too personally also.
What others think of me and say of me eat me up some days….so you are not alone.
I have to constantly remind myself what God thinks/says about me!
About a 1000 times a day honestly. I am getting better about believing it!
Renee’s bible study has a been a huge step in helping me realize that, and find some relief.
I don’t know about you, but I need to be reminded daily!
Thank you for being honest! Bless you!
Laura M. says
Em thank you so much for your response and encouragment!!
Without going into details, I am going through some really tough stuff right now. You’re words brought me to tears, but that’s okay because that’s God’s healing. I really needed to read your words and be reminded that I’m not alone. That’s another lie, that your alone and no one cares. And yes, I too need to be reminded daily (and sometimes it feels like every minute of the day) of what God thinks/says about me. I have been trying read Renee’s book and do the study, but “things” keep getting in the way of it. That must mean I really need to read it! God bless you for being sensitive to HIs leading in responing to me!!

Hi Girls
WOW I love both of your stories, and I am looking forward to meeting you both in October on the cruise. My mom spoke for me when I was 15 I had my mouth wired shout as I had my bottom jaw brought forward, and I could not speak for 6 weeks. One day my older sister came upstairs wearing my brand new shirt that I had not even worn yet, and I make noise and got my moms attention, back then I had a chalk board I could write on, so I told he the my sister could not wear that shirt as it was mine, so my mom told my sister to take it off and not touch anything that was not hers. Still to this day I loved that my mom stood up for me, she is my rock. My parents always told us girls, the world is your oyster, do what God has given you to do. I have been an accountant since I was 20, now as I turned 48 and reflect on all the people I have helped with my book keeping skills, I am thankful God has lead me in this direction. I have been the treasurer for our church for 8 years and I love it.
See both of you in a few months and thank you for sharing your stories today.
I finished A Confident Heart, I have always had confidence in God all my life.

What a good study – one I needed to hear. Thank you Jennifer for the encouragement and the 3 R’s!. I am getting better but I still hold on too much to what people say about me and how they see me. I volunteered to hold devotions where I work and I plan to share from your book, Renee. The more I read it, the more it will sink in and become second nature. I have your book on my Kindle so it is easy for me to revisit Chapter 12 and other highlights to feed on God’s truth! I hope you host a summer lesson! I am already subscribed to your emails!

Just the other day I looked into the mirror and told myself how STUPID and UGLY I was! It took an entire day to get over that and the emotions I had encountered. I haven’t felt that way in a long time. In fact, I was shocked those kinds of emotions were able to creep back up. However, I have the tools to and the confidence to FIX it. So very thankful for your book and the God timing of it all. 🙂
Karen says
I just wanted to share a verse that came on my heart when I read your comment. God loves you and always remember we are created in his image. Have a blessed day.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
JB says
Thank you for the verse Karen 🙂
Becky says
Renee, thank you for sharing this message from Jennifer! This study has been wonderful, and I will be recommending it to numerous friends. I look forward to continuing encouraging discussion this summer.
I think that some of the most important things that I have gotten from your study and chat have been (really, there are so many wonderful things that it is hard to distill down to a few):
1) Healing is a process. And emotional and spiritual healing can be a longer, harder process than physical healing because the causes and depths of the injury can stay hidden for a long time.
2) God can handle that, and through Christ, so can I!
3) Healing is a CHOICE ~ God is waiting to heal me, but I must choose daily to allow Him access to my heart, to trust Him.
4) I have to CHOOSE what I am going to listen to, think about, say to myself; and the choices I make in this area will greatly impact my healing, either for good, if I choose God’s truth, or for bad, if I choose to listen to the lies of the world, my own heart or the enemy.
Thank you for all of the scripture that you have woven throughout your message. In fact, the truth of God’s word is your message. I shared today’s post on fb, as I have numerous others of your posts, and I am already on your email list 🙂
God bless you, Renee, and all of the sisters who have been guest post-ers, and those who have shared their hearts in this study the past couple of months.

Becky,
You are already defeating the enemy with amazingly powerful thoughts like these. Way to go!
Renee’s words and support have been amazingly timed and perfect in many ways. Reading your words, Renee is like sitting and chatting over coffee with my best friend. So naturally and poignantly penned.
Thank-you, I look forward to continually receiving your emails and have shared with my sister your link.
Courtney says
Awesome message, Jennifer! It’s a great reminder of no matter of your circumstances, past, disabilities, etc., you can still move on! You’re not defined by your circumstances, but how you over come them. And it is so important to recognize, refuse, and rephrase negative talk. God sees us as love, hope, and triumph; not failures and disappointment. It is so critical we study His truths and believe it.
I shared today’s message on twitter!
I pray it blesses my followers like it has blessed me!
Thank you and God bless! 🙂

I want to say THANK YOU, for sharing this today. I have fwd it to a few friends that I know have been struggling these last few days with ” words” people have used. Making our situations feel even harder. We know that God is in control and will use all of this for His glory. I will say it is hurting right now but we know to just walk with Him.
Karen says
Jennifer I love the inspiring three R’s. It is very easy to remember and a great way to keep our thoughts focus and on Christ’s word. Renee I am already signed up for your email updates and love them. Have a wonderful and awesome day ladies. Thanks for all you do.

I would love Jennifer’s book. This is the one thing I have really tried to work on during this study is to train my thoughts to God’s and not the negative that I usually do. Lately satan has been right there to tell me the negative its been a battle these past 2 weeks. But thankful God’s word is true.
I shared this on facebook and by email.
Thank you
Lynn says
Thank you for sharing this information. I find so often that I know God’s truth, I know what I should do and within minutes negative feelings begin to convince me differently. The bible verse “Satan desires to have you and is waiting and crouching at your door, but you must master it.” from Genesis 4:6-7. This is a daunting task, but we must continually walk with Jesus and let his thoughts fill our minds.
Halona says
Renee, you and Jennifer are such blessings. I recently read A Confident Heart and loved it. Your mp3s and printables have been so encouraging. I love Jennifer and saw her speak at a Women of Faith event a few years ago. She is perfectly lovely. Thank you for helping us erase of not so pretty stuff.

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love” (Ephesians 4:11-16 NLT).
We grow everyday through God’s word, through encouraging, God-based, word-based teachings, through God’s love and direction…I love this study. Thanks Renee. (My husband has even been reading the book and I see growth and change.) It is an exciting time…

Jennifer, thank you for this terrific advice on how to get rid of negative thoughts and words that don’t line up with God’s words for me. And Renee, thank you for providing so many positive scriptures throughout this book, the printable resources, and the free 7-day Doubt Diet as ammunition against the negative comments of the world. As women, we seem to be the target of so much criticism and guilt-tripping. However, God wants to strengthen us and give us confidence in every way. This has been a wonderful study and I’ll definitely be revisiting this book!
