I’m so glad you’re here! In case we haven’t met, here’s a little about me: to my favorite place to be is on the lake or in the North Carolina mountains with my family or friends.
I met my husband, J.J., when he was in college at Virginia Tech and I was working in a job I loved, while also volunteering in campus ministry. Because he was almost 5 years younger then I was, I didn’t think he was an option for me. So set him up on dates with younger friends, but then I felt jealous seeing him talking to one of them. A few months later, J.J. he told me he had his eyes on me the whole time, and wanted to pursue me, but he was waiting for God to give him the go-ahead.
We were best friends by the time we started dating in December 1992. And although we had plans to date for 2 years, we got engaged six months later in June 1993 and married 3 months later on September 11, 1993. We’ve been married almost 27 years and we’ve had some hard seasons, but we’ve learned and grown closer through them and honestly love doing life, ministry and parenting together.
We’ve got three children and two daughters-in-love: Our son Josh (24) and his wife Brandi, our son Andrew (22) and his fiance Hannah Rose and our daughter Aster (11), who we adopted from Ethiopia when she was a baby.
My official bio says I’m a best-selling author, conference speaker, former executive director and radio co-host with Proverbs 31 Ministries, and a writer for (in)Courage (a division of DaySpring). But those who know me well would tell you I am a people-loving, adventure-seeking friend and mom who loves Jesus, her family and landscape gardening with all her heart. They might also mention I can be a mess and have been known to take my dogs medicine (accidentally) and call the fire department more than once.
My passion is to encourage and equip women, moms, and girls to overcome self-doubt and live in the fullness of their God-given purpose, gifts, and potential, roles and relationships—and empower them with courage and confidence to make a difference right where they are, with what they already have
