Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

I would love to win this book for a friend and I because we could use it to do bible study together. What a great way to grow confident in him.
I am really enjoying the OBS of this book and would love to share it with the ladies in my small group. …as soon as we are finished with our current Made To Crave study. 😉
I loved The Confident Heart book and doing the Bible study through your blog. The memory verses that were part of the study have transformed me, and I’ll never forget the shadow and Sam and all the great everyday examples. With all that being said, how can I not expect great things of the devotional? : )
So excited about this devotional book. I know it will be wonderful. I am loving the book so far.
I would love to be able to give this book as a gift to a person that I am extremely grateful to for all that she sacrifices for my daughter. I could never repay her but somehow a gift for the soul seems like a very appropriate gift.
I would love to be encouraged everyday with this book. I have been building relationships and my kids school and that is one of many of my mission field. I would also love to share this book with my friend who is a Christian but she is struggling.
I know this book is for me because you have described my situation. It is so hard to see God’s truth sometimes when you’re feeling inadequate and fearful. I can’t wait to receive the book.
How exciting. This is just what I need. I can’t wait to read this book and see how it transforms my mind. Thank you for loving others and wanting to make a difference!
Proverbs 31 devotionals are part of my everyday life now, and the bible studies are amazing. Renee your book A Confident Heart changed my whole life. I am walking closer to God more than ever before. My attitude has change tremendously, it is very evident to my family, I have been able to “take a step of faith” and do what the Lord was nudging me to do, and it has been such a positive step for me, my husband and my children. I depend on Him for everything I do, I pray, I journal, and I read my bible. God’s promises are amazing. Doing the OBS study on your book again has been amazing, I am adding more color to my book, it is not only yellow with a highlighter it is now purple and pink (ink). I keep it close for reference. I would so love to have your devotional. Thank You for your encouragement. Love and Blessings Anna
I would love to have this book to use in tandem with reading A Confident Heart for the first time. It is such a powerful book on it’s own, I can only imagine how impactful it would be to put these together. Thank you!
I have recently stepped away from a situation that was unhealthy for my children and myself. I think this book will help me keep taking those postive steps and changes in my life to show my children a better life. And to help me through the everyday battles I face.
with a SUPER low confidence level….major life changes coming up….2 precious girls to raise – I need a remind of the confidence God wants me to have because HE is in control not ME! thank you for the chance to win
I am going through a battle now and would love to have the book.
I am reading the Confident Heart book now and it sure has been helping me as well as giving me encouraging words to share with other friends, coworkers. I would love to have the companion devotional book to be able to put in our church library or to give away to whomever God lays on my heart.
I would like to win this book because I have just lost my job and really can’t afford to buy the book at this time. I have been through a lot in the last couple of years with people just really letting me down and making me feel like I’m worthless. I am just trusting God that He will bring just the right job to me so I can testify to His goodness. I have recently started teaching a young adult bible study and would be very interested in this series to teach the next session. God bless!
I must say, before I bought the book a Confident Heart, I was a miserable person. I am in a loveless marriage and just really thought that had to dictate my life. As I read this book, not only am I not alone in my struggles, I am not the only one that has faced this either. My self confidence, self worth, and self esteem have all been rattled when I realized that I marriage this man for the wrong reason, to which his reply is there is no way. This book literally changed my life over night. Thank you for writing this and sharing with me! Where 2 or more may gather! Serenity, Peace, and Grace!
Praising God for his transformation in your life!! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us.

Renee Swope’s Ministry Team
I am so excited to participate in this study. When I read Renee’s story I was stunned to learn someone else had experienced similar encounters in the past. Recently, I sense God is dealing with me to step up into ministry. For the past 4 years, I taught a teen girls Sunday School class, but now am presently waiting on the next chapter God is writing in my life. When I was teaching and preaching to the young teen girls, I felt alive and on fire with purpose. Since then, not teaching, I have slumped into a pit of “what now”? While waiting in the “hallway” for God to open the next door, I have found a new and refreshing enjoyment in writing devotions. I have started a group devotion on Facebook and look forward to new revealings and inspirations from God. I know he is calling me to ministry, and praying he will show me where. After reading Renee’s story, and she shared her account of Isaiah 61:1-3, I knew then I did not stumble upon this by accident. I know I lack confidence, and I am looking forward to doing this study.
I would love to win this devotional for a young girl I have been mentoring. She has been through such horror in her life since she was five years old. She has been struggling with her faith, trying to make sense of why she had to suffer such things at the hands of an abusive father. She just recently made the decision to accept Jesus into her heart and life, but everyday is a struggle due to her depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I feel that this devotional could help her on her new faith journey and also strengthen her as she learns to cope, but also offer forgiveness to the man who should have protected her; her dad. The scripture and words will aid her in becoming all that God has ordained for her to be: strong, confident, and free!
I am currently doing this study with Proverbs 31 and it is amazing. It has challenged me to dig a little deeper into the issues in my life. And most importantly to stop throwing away my confidence. I have a friend I know who struggles with the same issues and would love to bless her with this life changing book. Thank you for being “naked” and sharing your life story. There are lots of places in your book where I felt like you were writing my story.
I’m in the second week of the Online Bible Study for ‘A Confident Heart’ and I am in awe of how God is using this book to shape my life and that of hundreds of other women through Renee’s words of encouragement. To win the devotional book would mean so much to me, as it would allow me to continue my growth once the OBS ends (which I’m already dreading)! Thank you Renee for being such an inspiration and source of hope! May God continue to bless you and your work.
