Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

Oh my goodness….My friends and I SOOOO need to stop being so hard on ourselves! Show us how!
I am excited about the devotional and can’t wait to get my hands on it and let it speak to me. I am reading the book right now and doing the online study.
Thank you Renee for writing it is changing the loves of many.
My long distance friend and I plan to get the devotional and start off 2014 reading/studying and growing in our faith and our love for the Lord.
I have heard the book is ABSOLUTELY wonderful. I am ordering it and think the devotional will be a GREAT addition. I have struggled with overall confidence in myself my whole life. Cannot wait to dive in to this!!
Renee’s book “A Confident Heart” was an absolute life-changer for me!! I truly thought it was written just for me. I need to read it again and again. I am definitely prone to letting doubt and fear guide my thoughts and actions. I need daily reminders to trust God ~ He is able to give me victory over my fears and insecurities. I would love to have a copy of the new devotional book!! 😀
I love the book, I’m excited to read the devotional!
I am new at really developing my relationship with God. I grew up with Catholic upbringing and went thru all the rituals that many Catholic children go through but feeling like God was always so far away and never really developing a relationship with him. I spent a good portion of my life full of fear and God seemed so far away. I always felt like I was on my own and at times that was a very lonely place to be. I masked my fear, anxiety and pain with many different addictions including drugs, alcohol, food, sex and relationships but with each one could never find enough of them to fill the black hole inside my soul. I became broken beyond repair. After losing both my parents and entering into and extremely unhealthy relationship I denounced God and entered the darkest period of my life. I almost died from alcohol addiction and abuse in a relationship. One night when I thought I could go on no more I got down on my knees and asked God to help me and save me from this darkness that I had entered into. I knew I either had to surrender totally to God or die. Thus began my journey back into faith. It was baby steps and a lot of work with counselors, support groups but ultimately when I hit another emotional bottom a couple of years ago I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ and thats when the things truly started to change for me. I am a newly reborn Christian Woman. I would love to win this book to continue to establish and grow in my relationship with Jesus. Thank you!
I’d actually like to win this as a gift for a friend. She has battled low self-esteem for as long as I have known her and a series of events in the last 3 years only has added to this perception. I see this book as a tool, along with the love of Christ in her, as a possible way for her to begin overcoming her destructive low self-esteem issue. It would please me dearly to be able to give her this tool as a way to her own healing.
I get so excited when I see the daily devotional email and it’s from Renee Swope! I would LOVE to win the book!!
It would be a blessing to win this devotional – there are several women I would love to give them to in order to help them on their walk!
A devotional can be the first step to the rest of your day. I would love to make it a great one. This devotional seems to be geared toward Women with a lot going on and that shoe fits my foot! Thank you for all you do! I work with several women and we share with each other so frequently that I am hoping to do that with this one!
One thing I find interesting is that when you are really down. I mean $10 a week food budget. Always looking for work. You can get tools to help no how to listen, get help, pray, or ask God for help or even ask for prayers because you DO NOT have the money. I do not believe this is what would please God.
Renee’s book is very helpful. There is a strong need for devotionals in a Christian’s life. Of course reading the Bible is paramount but we can use these as helps. Thanks for being so transparent in all of your books….we can all relate!
Confidence is something that is so neccessary for all. I would love to win & share with my sister.
I would love to win this devotional and share it with my best friend who, as a widow, is raising 3 little boys alone.
I have been walking in a valley since June and as of right now, there is no end in sight. My husband was a worship pastor at a local church until he was asked to leave in June. There was no legitimate reason for a small group of people to ask him to leave but made up reasons and then attacked his character with their lies. They even broke NC employment laws but nobody seems to care. The severance package ended a month ago and now money is scarce. During all this, comments were made about me that has left me doubting myself and my talents. I could use some encouragement and some good news.
I would love to receive this. I am a mother of three boys. I have always struggled with my own self esteem and depression. I am finding this is not helping making life easier with children who have social, behavioral, and physical issues. My marriage is also suffering. I am having trouble being the role model I know I have in me and am trying to find myself as God sees me and not as I do.
Please enter my name to win!
This devotional sounds great and I would love to win it!
knowing I grew up in a household that felt unsecure in the love from my father, has made me seek god more in my life. I have always longed for more. Not knowing what that longing was, I always asked jesus for help. when I was a teen I went through a lot of unsatisfying relationships, always longing for love, with the wrong men. I felt unsecure. I felt I always had to be with a man, not matter how bad it was. Now being married for twenty three years w a husband that has been through a lot with me. I have been in an out of physch wards on an off for about 10 years.I always tried to turn to jesus
My boys grew up with a haRD TIME WITH THIER MOTHER BEING THE WAY SHE WAS PUT ALOT ON THEM. I PRAY FOR THIER S safety an health every day. I know that they can handle different situations with women but one son doesn’t TRUST WOMEN, HE WAS HURT bad. I pray for him so much.
I pray that we can be closer from what we have been through and I hope that jesus bless us on this journey.
