Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

God’s timing is just so powerful. I just finished “Brave” by Angela Thomas last night with a wonderful group of women and we all just were not ready to keep seeking God’s word. The I get this email and read about Rene new book/devotional. I think it would be a wonderful way to continue to strive to be Confident and Brave women for Christ! Thank you Rene!
There is nothing like women encouraging women. I totally love the Proverbs31 ministry. The sample of your new devotional sounds wonderful.
The reason I would say that these devotions would be so great to have would be because the book is so wonderful now. It is taking every ounce of me to trust God and it already is showing my identity in him. The brilliant thing is not only is the study good but it is going along with my home church. It has already been effective on my life. The devotions would be so great and just having more of that affirmation from God is so powerful too.
First i would like to just thank God for blessing you with such spiritual wisdom, and your obediance to write. it’s such a life changing inspirational and very empowering way to over come, those deep wounds and insecurities that are such lies that hold some of us in a place of not being able to be who we are called to be in Christ Jesus. God has delivered me from abusive relationships, substances abuse and self destruction and i’m still in so much more need of His Divine healing and deliverence so that i can be able to build relationship with others for the Glory of God. Being a positive and Godly influence to other women and young girls like my daughter and her peers. A mature Christian that has been awakened,by the Glory of God and the Holy Spirit and not have to struggle so much with negative thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to read my cry for God’s help……
May God continue to pour out His Spirit of Blessing to you and you family. Chanel
I would love to have an encouraging devotional to go along with the Confident Heart book I purchased. It is so hard for women to truly know their worth in this life. Words hurt and filling your “thought closet” with God’s word is the best and the only way to truly win the battle of the mind. Thank you so much for all you do and share.
I am doing the online Bible study with A Confident Heart. Having the decotional would be an
awessome addition to this book and study.
The book is wonderful and I would love to read through the devotional as well!
Well, since I’m doing the online Bible study ” A Confident Heart, I really would like to have the devotional to go along with it.
I need the daily reminders as I try to remove the AM thoughts.
Renee,
This devotional is a blessing. I got so excited reading it. Thinking about my past hurt, losses, illness, etc do not define my life ONLY JESUS. I would love to win this new Confident Heart Devotional book for a friend and myself. It would be awesome to read it together or just bless someone with it and allow God to speak in their life. I hope to win this bundle. Thanks for all you do in Chist!
I am currently doing the study of your first book and I think this devotional would help to continue retraining my brain (which I really need!). I would love to share this with a friend because I have several that we keep each other accountable but we have drifted apart lately and what better way to reconnect!!
I could definitely use a confidence boost! Would love to get a copy of your new devotional 🙂
Confident heart changed my life. I went through the oblige bible study and still pick it up to read. Would live the devotional at my bedside Thanks
My husband has entered late stage Alzheimer’s and as a result I am entering a new phase of learning how to navigate my world without his loving presence in my daily life. Gaining the confidence and peace that only God’s Loving Presence can provide is paramount.
I have really enjoyed the encouragement through Proverb’s 31 devotionals and books by many of the author’s I’ve learned about through those devotionals. I have heard A Confident Heart is an amazing book and would love the opportunity to read it and then pass it on to bless someone else. I have been blessed with the opportunity to mentor other ladies and lead a women’s Bible study group and would love to share this with them. Thank you for the encouragement you share with so many women!
Confidence is an area that I have been working on…this book would be a great tool to help me get past my insecurities.
I would LOVE to win this new book. It would be right up my alley! I am a one-parent family and the Lord knows my heart but I am often tired, over worked and lack confidence that I am doing things “right”. It would be a true blessing to have this new resource and build the joy and confidence Jesus wants me to have everyday.
I loved the book but I have not been consistent at applying the scripture to my day. A daily devotional could be just the tool I need to put this into practice and live with confidence.
This is just what I need as I trust God for more strength in this transition of teacher to student… I would love to get the journal nourish my growth in Him at this crucial point…
This would be an awesome follow-up to the P31 study of the book. I’d likely find a group of friends with whom to share it, not just one. I’ve been feeling led to start something at work, and this would be just the thing to kick it off.
