Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

I’d like to win a NEW Confident Heart Devotional book for me and a friend because I am ready to live the life of faith God’s designed forme and become all He’s created me to be. I’d love to experience this with a friend or several friends who are also ready to stop letting doubt, fear, and insecurity control them. I’m ready to step out the boat and walk on water.

I have been enjoying getting the Proverbs 31 online devotionals and just recently purchased Lysa Terkuerst’s book, Unglued and the devotional that goes along with it. I would love to read a Confident Heart. I too struggle with feelings of inadequacy at times and need to learn to lean on Our Heavenly Father more. I know he is our strength, but it is easy to forget sometimes and we try to go it alone.
Glenna Graupmann says
I have recently discovered the Proverbs site and enjoy each of the various blogs from the ladies who
write their messages. So many times they fit me exactly or a friend who I pass them along too.
Linda says
I would love to win the book.
Alyssa Heitman says
I would love to read this book as well as give a copy to my friend. We have both come from very difficult backgrounds and have had to deal with many trials and tribulations, but by the grace of God we have had each other to get through the difficult times. We both have trouble with confidence and letting go of past fear and anger, and I believe this book will help us with that.
Sandy Walton says
I would love to have a copy of the devotional, but they are sold out ! When can we possibly order in the future? This looks like a wonderful tool for relieving anxiety.
Emily says
I think to myself, yes I’m confident and strong… but then I read the “peek inside” portion and it brings me to reality: those are my exact thoughts. Recently my job was eliminated and I hold insurance for our family so feel a big burden there. We look at it as a blessing in disguise as I wanted to spend more time at home with my young boys. My husband is very supportive but I still have those “can’t do it all” thoughts that come creeping back. My husband farms so has been away from home for weeks and I’ve got two boys ages 3 and 1 and dealing with work issues. Everything seems to be adding up and am stuck in a rut. This book would be so helpful for me to gain perspective and keep constant confidence.
Marcy says
I know life isn’t always easy, but I thought what was happening to you would at least have some purpose or make some sense. Two years of underemployment living off relatives, no home, no full time jobs, no benefits, over fifty, unpaid school loan, we are hopeless about ever being on our own again. I’m glad I joined OBS and have found encouragement but it’s hard to get beyond myself and this situation to see God’s purpose in a all this. I know other people have it much worse than I do and I feel like I’m whining, but this is real and personal and I can’t find God in it. I know all the platitudes, “Wait on The Lord, Be still and listen, Do something for someone else, FROG (fully rely on God)”, etc, etc, etc. My hearts just not in it anymore.
Gabrielle Clapper says
I would really love to win this devotional book because I am a Sophomore college student and it’s so hard to be confident in my personality, my grades, my body image, a lot! I think that this book could help me calm some of these unnecessary worries that I can’t seem to make my mind forget. My friend that I would give the other devotional to was just talking to me the other day how she too struggles with her self image and would love to just forget about it and tell her self that it’s okay. We are both single too and it’s hard to feel good about yourself because so many people at my school have significant others and there is even this pressure quota of “ring by spring”, where each girl is to be proposed to by spring of their senior year. Don’t get me wrong though, because I am so blessed and thankful to be at the college I am. It’s just hard sometimes to see me as the valuable girl God sees me as.
Alexandra Ziller says
Your ministry and book have been the water to quench my desperate thirst to grow in The Lord. When I spend time with you, your blog or book I realize I am not alone in the desert dying of thirst but thriving in the Word with my sisters in faith!
Thank you Renee!

Debbie Painter says
This last year has been a continuous struggle with trust. I have dove into His word and learned so much but am always ready to learn more. We left the church we had served in and attened for over 30 years and this shook me to the core. I began to doubt all I knew. I hope to use the book for encouragement for my self and others.
Thanks, Debbie

JoAnn Erickson says
I have finally found a church that I feel at home in. I woke up Sunday and so excited that it was Sunday so i can go to church and priase god for al he has done. I have been having nightmares for the past 10 years and went to a prayer groups and the night mares ended. I wake up every morning and thank God for a good night sleep without the nightmare. Its been a week. Its been a long time coming. But Also, through readings, people I get my answers to what God wants me to learn from a situation in my life. I love it. It usually takes 3 or 4 different resources for me to finally get it but I do. We have an AMAZING God there is nothing he can will not due… This devotional would be wonderful to complete my study. I have your book on Confident Woman. Thank you for all you do.
Michelle Webster says
My whole life I have wrestled with my attacking thoughts of not being good enough or worthy enough. I have had great days of choosing to focus on God’s love for me: “My grace is sufficient.” But I’ve had many more days of choosing to let the Enemy drown out God’s voice. As I begin a new chapter in my life, moving into a job that requires every ounce of faith I can muster, I am in an all-out battle with myself about whether I can do this. I could use a book that reminds me that I am a confident, strong woman. I can do all things through Christ!
Valerie Sparks says

I am doing the online bible study right now and it is wonderful. I completed a christian abuse recovery program about a year ago after 40 years of abusive relationships that began with my mother and then in relationships with men, and am doing better, but I struggle with depression and feeling not good enough. I want to have a confident heart and know God better. Some day I want to work in womens ministry but I know I have to be confident in who I am in Christ first.
Kathy says
I feel as though my life has been written in the first to chapters of A Confident Heart. It send shivers down my spine when I continue to read that all the terrible times I went through, both emotionally and physically are being brought back to life. I can’t believe someone else GETS IT, knows me, and is helping me come to grips with my locked down emotions. I will value this book for the rest of my life. I can only imagine how wonderful the Devotional would be. If I don’t win it, I’ll definitely be buying it. Thank you Renee for forcing me to bring out everything I’ve hidden for so many years. I love the quote on page 62 A Confident Heart is found in a woman who knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that she is loed no matter what! I hope to feel that love IN FULL, by the time I’m done with this book. God Bless You, and all the woman who are now being renewed by your works.
Holly Branum says
I know that myself like many women I know deal with the lies we tell ourselves each day about our self worth. It is hard to see ourselves the way He does. Self doubt has always plagued me.

I recently re-kindled a relationship with my x husband and moved from South Carolina to Virginia leaving my job friends and family within the first week I felt unsafe and was told to leave my new home. It was a long drive to my family in MD. and WV then finally back to SC but I am home and safe. Time to emerge myself in my faith with Gods word and heal while I look for a job and home

Sharon says
A Confident Heart…I am recently divorced. My ex-husband stated that he loves me, but why am I divorced? Why did he do the things he did? That wasn’t love and he didn’t know Jesus. In order to truly LOVE you must know Jesus because He is LOVE. Well on the same note I feel that I am confident. But not in the sense of God Confident. I want know confidence as God knows confidence; just as God is love. It’s that simple.
Cheryl says
I have been struggling with doubt since my husband of 23 years walked out on our marriage. I have trouble moment to moment remembering how much God loves me and that he is for me….I think this giveaway would help me, a lot.
Linda says
I lost my father to suicide, lost my baby at 20weeks pregnant and last year suffered from depression. I felt I lost my identity and all confidence. I’m a 46 year old woman that has gone through many trials in the last few years.Surgeries, dealing with two substance abusing daughters. Raising my grandson for years. A alcoholic husband whom I got the courage to leave this past August. Most of the people that know me have no clue how I’ve survived these trails. I knew I was strong but never could figure out what kept me going. Until, I opened my heart up to God through Jesus and fond my new church through a cousin. I have become a faithful believer. Since opening the door I’m a work in progress that is for sure learning so much about myself someone I had lost a long time go. I have lived with a “why me” look on life as if a dark cloud followed me everywhere destine for awful things to happen. I never saw any good in any of my trails but I knew I never felt alone either. ODD but true. Even though I never knew it but God was always with me. Never gave up on me and I honestly believe he showed me where to find him. I have become easier going. I’m softer, kinder and most of all easier on myself. I’m learning forgiveness sets me free not the people whom hurt me but me. I would love to win your gift your books. To continue my journey.

Every morning I wake up and start my day by getting my kids off to school and getting ready for work. When I get to work is when I can read my Proverbs 31 devotion through my e-mail. It would be a great start to the day if I could have a devotional to start as soon as I wake up. Even if I don’t win one, I still think that this would be the one for me. I have read the book and I have a bible study group that meets on Tuesday nights. We have been discussing starting our next study on a Confident Heart.
