Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

I’ve been receiving daily devotionals from Proverbs 31 for 6 months. Most of the time it’s the exact message I needed. And there are times it’s carried me through my day. I have lost 4 grandparents, my biological father and stepfather (who was in my life for 35 years) in the past 6 years. It has been extremely difficult for me but I know they are in a better place. I think this book and devotional would continue to bless me and help me with my struggles.
Deborah says
God is doing mighty things in my family right now. I have ordered the study for me, my daughter and granddaughter to do as a family. there is much healing that needs to take place and I know that God is the great healer and restorer of life. the 60 day devotional would be one more tool to help with the healing journey we are on .
Lauren Taylor Romero says
I have been looking for a good devotional. I am a college student and trying to continue to keep my faith strong. 🙂
Kristi Schmieder says
I would like to share my family’s journey and hopefully inspire someone else that may read this. My husband and I met when we were 14 and have been best friends since. Married for 16 years. 3sons. I always thought I had faith until April of this year, 2013. On spring break I discovered my husband stealing my prescription pain medications. I am chronically disabled but push myself to be the best mom and wife I can be. The discovery of my husband and best friend of 27 years addiction was horrifying. He chose to run and hide and deny the truth. Things quickly spiraled out of control. And what didn’t help was the hatred his family had for me, and used this opportunity to drive the wedge in to break up our marriage. They told him I was leaving and taking the boys. Which was so far from the truth. I kept telling my husband I was there for him. But he couldn’t let his family find out the truth. One night his anger and rage lead to an assault. And this is where I believe God intervened. My husband ended up getting arrested, face down, with asphalt in his face on a driveway leading to what became our church. That night I just prayed and knew this was a result of his addiction. He spent a night in jail. 4 days later he served me with divorce papers and used my disability to immediately obtain possession of our boys. Even though I had a protection order awaiting. But his parents hid him to prevent that. In Michigan there is a 6 month “time out” rule. You can not get divorced for 6 months. All the meanwhile my dad was dying of pancreatic cancer. I stayed patient and kind to Tim. This was not “my Tim”. This was addiction. 5 months went by. I had 1 month left. For the first time in my life I surrendered to God. I knew things wouldn’t happen “my” way. And certainly not Tim’s way. As a last resort I found a window of opportunity to get Tim to meet with a pastor. I randomly picked this pastor based on the location of the church being in the back of our neighborhood. And just so happens to be the church with the driveway where Tim got arrested. This pastor and his wife, complete strangers to me, took me in and listened to my story. I loved my husband. Knew he would die if this didn’t work. I convinced Tim to go meet with this pastor. And he did. That meeting with that pastor changed Tim’s life. I next invited Tim and our boys to come to that church with me. And Tim showed up with our boys. That Sunday Tim , a total stranger to this church, lead our entire family during silent prayer to the altar. Tim sobbed. We all did. I think the whole church did. The pastor and his wife immediate saw us and prayed with us. I knew my Tim was back. And 3 months later we are going better than ever. We are a family again. We have put faith first. Tim is in men’s bible study groups. We have a fun marriage class group through the church. I can say I witnessed a miracle from God. There was zero chance of us reconciling. And Tim is drug free. Which we are a team in this journey of recovery. I would love a chance of being chosen for this book series. This is all new to us, and we need all the guidance we can get. I am so grateful my prayers were answered. And God found Tim and saved him literally. Thank you for anyone that took the time to hear bits and pieces of our journey.
Andrea says
Kristi, I’m sobbing right now. I have a similar situation and your story encourages me. I’m so thankful you shared your story of love faith and recovery.
Kristi Schmieder says
I am so grateful you read it. I BELIEVE in Tim. And now our family is putting faith and God first. We are fortunate to have a program called RACING FOR RECOVERY. It’s mission is to prevent substance abuse and help those who battle addiction. A guy who actually went to our high school, started it 12 years ago!!! It’s working for Tim and US. Todd Crandell is the guy and ESPN did a documentary called “from addict to ironman”. Anyone battling substance abuse, or is a supporter to a loved one, or knows of anyone struggling with addiction should look him up. His story incredible. He’s our counselor and we are so lucky he lives close by. Many if not every woman would not have fought to save their marriage, let alone their addict husbands life. But I chose to. Even with all the pain and hurt. (The stealing of my dying fathers medications too). The weird thing is, forgiveness was never an issue. And Tim can see and feel the love I have for him. Unconditional love. And God sure showed him the way!! Haha. It truly is miraculous. I will pray for you especially going through something similar. I “get” it. Feel free to contact me anytime. And don’t give up or lose hope!! And FAITH!! ([email protected]). I’m just an ordinary mom of 3 boys. And Tim and I are in this to win this!! (Journey of recovery). Thanks again

Kristi Schmieder I have been having a lot going on in the last 2 years, but mine has been with our daughter I am really sorry but prayers and peace to you (Sorry the computer cut me off) I hope things will get better for you!
Kristi Schmieder says
Thank you so much Moya!! Keep the faith. This is all so new to us. But our marriage and friendship is the best it’s ever been. I ask myself everyday, why did God choose to save Tim? And our marriage?? So many don’t get saved. My only answer is surrendering to God for the FIRST time changed my life. It was like a calming and reassuring effect came over me, and I just completely left it up to God. I was going to accept whatever his will be done was. And honestly, since this was my first time completely relying on God, I had no clue what I was doing!! Lol I will pray for you and hope you find the strength to have HOPE and that your daughter figures out she is capable and deserving of a great life. It starts with a choice. She can do it! And I highly recommend addressing the root cause or the “why”. But counseling is best for that. Take care and I’m always here for you.
Donna B says

Wow! After reading just a small piece from the book listed above it made me realize how insecure I didn’t even know I was being. God placed it on my heart that when I listen to the insecure thoughts I’m growing farther from Him. Even if i don’t win I’ll be praying everyday and finding scriptures that’ll help me be closer to God! Ty

I book your book several years ago and taught it out of my home. It changed my life!! Since then god has called me to be the women’s minister of my church. I can’t believe how much doubt run through us as children of God. My oldest daughter is now at college and is going through a tough time with relationships! I handed the book to her and she has handed it to a non-believer!! I love it!!! So much has come from your obedient call. I plan to teach this study again and really hope to win the devotion!!

I had already purchased “Confident Heart” and was reading through it, when a friend called me one morning and was sharing her heart about a lot of “stuff” going on with her. (Which she would do often with me) But as soon as I was hearing her words, I felt this I had to give her this book. It was made for her heart! So I did! She has it now and I would love to have another copy, but also the devotion to go with it so we could do it together. She actually wanted to do that with the book alone this summer, but I couldn’t because of how busy my work and family life is in the summer. This would be a perfect time to do it. We live in the Adirondack’s of New York and winters are long and cold. Thank you for sharing you heart in writing this book and for making a devotional to go along with it!

I am trusting God through a difficult season…all forms of encouragement is needed. What great news about this daily devotion. My daughter is on an 11 month mission trip all over the world. This mom struggles at times.

This book is on my list of books to purchase and read. I have found myself feeling really distant from God lately and I’m really trying to push through to stay close to Him, rather than do the natural thing and just think about myself. I’m trying to stay positive even though at times I feel really discouraged. I think this book would really help me through this time and regardless of if I win or not, I will be reading this book in the near future!

My best friend and I meet every week – one on one- to uplift, encourage and hold each other accountable. We would love this book for our next study!!!
Laura says
I feel as though Satan is attacking me spiritually with the string of bad luck that has been hitting my family one after another over the past 3 months. I know God is there, but I can’t hear him. I feel like all of these things are happening because I am not doing something right.
Lori says
God is so faithful! And His word is full of His promises to us. I would love to find more. I’m excited to see how your devotional can help me find more of God’s promises from the Bible and give practical ways for me to apply them to my life.

I am a women’s ministry leader at a small town church in Illinois. Our thought life is so important in how life is. I love the am/fm radio analogy. I constantly am looking for something to share with the women in the church to encourage them, draw them into a Bible study, help get them focused on God’s Word and any other thing that might be needed. I haven’t read the book yet, but love the title of a Confident Heart. God’s blessings on you Renee.
Cindy Berg says
I recently received an answer to prayer in the form of a new friend who walks with me and helps start the day with the Lord and a positive attitude. We have been discussing on our 5 am walks the power of our thoughts and our words. This devotional seems to fit right in with what God is teaching me.
Tracy says
I have doubts so often and worry consumes too much of my time. I could use a refresher on confidence and a reminder about God’s role in my life.

I am on my second time of the Bible study A Confident Heart. Renee speaks in a way that truly grabs you and gives you the desire to get to know God better and seek Him more. Proverbs 31 ministry offered the first Bible study when I was truly going through a difficult, dark period in my life. The ladies who led the study reached out to me and gave me hope and strength when I didnt think I could go on. If I were to win this set, i would share it with someone who is struggling just like I was, and some times still do, so they can know Jesus in a close intimate way. In a way that Renee teaches so well in her book. A book I have shared with many. I am excited to see a devotional that I can have in my hands every day.

No matter how hard I work and no matter how much I accomplish at work, I am frequently plagued by self-doubt and worry that I am not valuable enough in my job. This is in no way corroborated by my employers, so I know I need a shift in my thinking!

I have been doing OBS for almost a year now and LOVE IT! thank you for what you do! I love devitional books becuase its hard for me to read a whole chaoter of the bible and understand what it is saying so with a devotional i get just a clip and its easy for me to understand and some are stories from peoples lives!
Vicki Affholter says
I would love to win the package because I tried to order and it is sold out. I am very drawn to the title and will look for the book itself, but the devotional sounds like exactly what I need right now.
Valerie Hammond says
This morning I am really fighting hopelessness and discouragement due to feelings of inadequacy. It seems like I don’t have the strength to do anything good these days as a wife or mother. I saw your email and read the book excerpt that you posted and it was just what I needed to hear! I do want to glorify God with my life but it seems so impossible because of the daily frustration I have because my actions don’t line up with what I really want to do and be. I would love to have this resource as a daily reminder of god’s love and mercy for me through the stories of other women so that I can push through this mud I feel like I’m in. Thank you for your ministry!
Samantha says
I am so excited about this devotional! I have been following the book on radio stations and online and the sessions are so encouraging every time. My husband is battling selfishness and otherthings you mentioned and I am drained from trying to help him. I even got caught up in feeling hopeless. We both need this encouragement daily to get our marriage back on track. I can’t afford to buy the book right now but will hopefully be able to get it soon!
This sample blessed me and will bless my marriage today. Thank you for sharing this. We are always encouraged by you.

Hello,
I would be so grateful to receive your book. I have suffered enormous loss in the past year and a half.
Long story short, I lost my mother and 5 days later lost my 26 year old daughter in a very tragic accident.
The accident happened early in the morning of my moms funeral, therefore I was not able to attend her funeral……and this happened in AZ so my husband and son and I felt very isolated from all our friends in
NC.
My beautiful daughter had brought us to a church we just love and it’s because of her that we are now closer
To God than ever before. Yet I still want to grow in my faith and discover Gods plan for me.
I have a lifelong friend who lost her father recently and have been trying to be there for her ad wel
I know in my heart that we could both benefit greatly from your book.
Thank you so much and God bless!
