“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.”  I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.

Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.

In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.

For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)

Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming  how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  7. I have experienced about a year of the wonderful life when I accepted Jesus and I spent that time basking in it and learning from others. Now, it is my turn to learn and keeping learning from the Bible…but that’s a hard one to tackle. 🙂 This book seems like a great way to start learning the messages from the Bible while integrating them into my life as a mom of young kids.

  10. I would really like the book. I do not have a computer at home and cannot stay after work to study on the work computer. Finances are very strapped for only the basic necessities. But I do love the Encouraging devotionals each morning when I come in. More times than I can tell they have been right on target for what I needed to get thru that day. So thank you very much for each day of encouraging and teaching words from God.

  11. My reason for entering sounds selfish: I have failed to pass a state board exam twice now, and the parts of the exam that I’m struggling with are practical portions. They require me to be confident, knowledgeable, and professional. I have discovered at 50+ that I have test anxiety for oral exams-and this from a woman who is never at a loss for words. Ironic? Perhaps. Or maybe even though I know without a doubt that God brought me to this new career, reached me in a despairing time of my life with this opportunity to help others, maybe, just maybe, I leaned too much on me and not enough on HIM.

    So I’ll be picking up this devotional and using it to help me remember to lean on HIM and not my own understanding.

  12. I have been moving farther and farther away from God even though I am trying to get closer. My thoughts and emotions are always beating me down (of course I let them). There is a lovely lady at my church that has been encouraging me (as she has gone thru a lot of the same emotions and pain that I have. I would love to have a book for the both of us and possibly have a study time together to reach a closeness to God that we so desire to experience.

When I thought about signing up for this study, I looked at all the material and I was thinking to myself well maybe I shouldn’t sign up for this one because I don’t have a problem with Confidence but I have so enjoyed the Prob. 31 studies so I bought the book and signed up and now I see I do have a problem with confidence this study has opened my eyes to the fact that I am a people pleaser and it is because of lack of Confidence.   14. I’ve done the online study. What I find is that it so easy to forget the truth and get stuck in self doubt, again. The daily devotional would be a great way to get me jump started again. And I’d love to share it with the women in my small group as well.

  20. I would love to receive this book; even just the title intrigues me. I suffer from feelings of insecurities and low self worth; I have a lot of fear that I don’t or won’t measure up to others expectations. I am a Pastor’s kid and from when I was little was always under the watchful eye of congregation and always feeling like I could not do anything and that I could not even make my own mistakes lest my father be taken to task. I have struggled all my life with fears and self doubt and most likely robbed myself of many a blessing. I am so ready for change and to find confidence.

  23. I would love to receive to a copy of your devotional as well as one for a friend. I am going through a rocky marriage right now and every bit of encouragement helps. Somedays are better than others. I don’t feel so confident especially when my husband says and does things that makes me wonder if he ever loved me. It is a hard pill to swallow.   27. I’ve been reading the devotional what happens when women say yes to God. I love it and have always struggled with confidence and my confidence and trust in God and would love the book and an opportunity to study this further and improve my trust in God. About a year ago I applied to six graduate schools and had every intention of attending school. I prayed and prayed and did all I needed to apply, but was denied by every single school. I was shocked and confused about God’s plan for my life and why it wasn’t working out the way I thought. I moved home and started working and was encouraged to get involved in my church and spoke twice in my church, up front for the sermon. It was a humbling experience where I spoke about my doubt and my need yo trust in God and have my confidence in him. Its still something I struggle with but something I am working on daily, and would love this deviotonal book as a way to help guide me on my path with the Lord. God is good!

  32. I have always lacked self-confidence in my personal life (never has been a problem for me professionally, though). Now that I’m a mom of 3 kids under the age of 5 and a wife of 5 years, doubt about my capability to actually be the wife and mom that they need me to be is, well, raging in my head. I know this book could be helpful, and having a friend share in the devotions with me as an accountability partner would be even more beneficial.

  33. Feelings of inadequacy?!?! Do I ever struggle with that! The Lord has turned my life upside down since accepting Christ Jan. 21, 2008. I’m out of a horrible marriage to an unbeliever who was abusive to me and our daughter. I don’t want to get remarried because then I will have to face my feelings of inadequacy as a wife, and I’m not ready to deal with that. I’m following Christ as hard as I can, all the while thinking that there’s no way I can accomplish the things I’m reaching for. I work full time in a secular job, I’m in seminary (taking 3 classes), working on my biblical counseling certification, raising/supporting a college student, caring for my mother who is battling skin cancer (headed to required plastic surgery as soon as they can get her an appointment), caring for my neighbor’s sick dog while they’re out of town, working in the church college ministry, counseling three women who have lost their focus on Christ, and counseling college girls on-the-fly as i talk with them I’m totally inadequate except for the grace of God (now if I could just emblazon that on my heart…which is where the devotional will help). I occasionally stop and look at my life, wondering why on earth I thought I could accomplish any of this, and maybe I will fail at all of it, like I’ve failed at so much. This book might also be a great resource for the women I counsel!

  34. I lead a bible study at our inner city outreach. We are in the midst of teaching them to attack fear with truth. To be able to teach them about rising above their dire circumstance through the power and confidence in Christ would give all of us a tool to use toward finding a joyful life. Would love to have your book to lead us forward.

  35. The sentence from “a peak inside” of the book is me! I would love to win the new book. My sister in law sent me the link to Proverbs 31 knowing I was and still am going through difficult times. Most days I feel defeated with the issues going on in my family but, the little glimpse I get once in awhile reminds me God has a plan, remain hopeful and confident that God is in control.   36. I am blessed daily with Proverbs 31 devotions. I truly strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman and share God’s love through my words and actions. Unfortunately, it is fear and doubt that I find often prevent me from being the woman God created and desires me to be. I am excited and encouraged about your new book, A Confident Heart!   37. I am enjoying the OBS A Confident Heart…I read the first two chapters that were given online..and very uplifting. I would realy love to win the 2 copies…because due to job loss I am not able to buy the book. And when I get 2 copies I will definitely pass one on to a friend or my daughter.   38. I don’t know where I opened a door to fear in my life. I have struggled with it for many years and knowing I serve a one true living God that can take that away. Once you allow or unknowing allow that in your life it’s not alone. Many other things seem to come with it. Like doubt, anxiety. I get fed up with it and just want it to go away. When I opened my email this morning and seen this and read it, I thought maybe this would help. I do know the truth always sets is free.

  43. I have been thru a lot in the past 2 years being diagnosed with several different diseases and having to have joint replacements. I struggle with my Confidence level because I am only 50 years old! My mind wants to do so much but my body is not cooperating and I am blessed with 3 Sons, Daughter-In-laws, 8 Grand Children and 1 on the way and I want to be a positive influence in all their lives!
