Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

I’d been separated from my husband for 19 months ( 23 yrs of marriage) and reading daily devotionals from Proverbs 31 and Renee had help me greatly in those days in which everything seems dark and hopeless.. I share them with my co-worker and it helps us both to tackle our work day in an office enviroment in which we deal with pain and abuse in a daily basis ( we work for a Domestic Violence Unit)
I am currently in the Proverbs 31 OBS studying, A Confident Heart, so I would love to win this devo book to go along with it!
Confident Heart was a life changing book. Growing up I struggled with who I was in Christ and after my husbands affair I felt like I hit rock bottom. This book helped me out of a pit and taught me to see how God sees me. I also work in Youth Ministry and this book has been instrumental for the teen girls I mentor. I refer to Confident Heart all the time and this devotional would just aid in the ministry God has called me to; teaching young girls who they are in Christ and showing them they are deeply loved by an incredible Savior and that we are truly His Beloved Masterpiece.
I want to grow stronger and closer to my Lord.
I am recently divorced and want to live by faith in what god can do instead of fear of what satan might do. I also want to be able to teach others to do the same. Thank you!
I enjoy the devotional emails so much and am always looking for books that will help me in my work as missionary in Mexico. Finances are many times tight because of investing in the ministry here, and I look for as many things as I can get to help me in teaching the various classes that I have to teach here. I also use these books as tools for teaching English and use them with non-Christians that come to me for classes. The books would be going into homes that don’t know Christ through English classes.
I have loved my emails from Proverbs 31 and loved A Confident Heart. I am looking forward to the devotional, maybe a little challenging for my not so confident heart stuck in a world where i am afraid to let walls down.
I’ve been looking for a new devotional book to host an informal study with some friends and acquaintances. I love reading Renee Swope’s thoughts through the email devotions and this book looks perfect for our needs. I’m so, so grateful for Proverbs 31 ministries. It has kept me afloat during many trying times. Love and blessings to all of you!
This would be so great to do this devotional with my bff. Thanks renee
Just had brain surgery started out with a bloodclot on the right lung and it traveled to the left side had to have emergency surgery before I bled to death and died. The lord was with me he has work for me to do so it wasn’t my time to go yet. Had my first surgery which took six hours came out and had to go back in two hours later God is Good! I now have cognitive memeory loss and can’t use my right side but waiting to hear from social security applied for disability keep me in your prayers. This book would help me get through the rough times in my life I am now facing.
Its even hard to express my gratitude for your devotionals, the one i can say is Im thankful you are so sentitive to the Holy Spirit. I ve had one of my most challenging and dificult months of my life, and was incredible that , every morning when I opened my email the devocional of the day spoke straight into my situation on that specific day. Some nights i would wake up in the middle of the it and hope that your email already came throufh because I knew God would speak to me and strenghten me for another day. I dont know how all the other people felt about the devocionals since they were written specific for me ; ) . I m extremely appreciative of your ministry, and share on my FB page frequently and email to my friends too. I really dont know how I would have copped without it. thank
I would so love to be able to share this with a friend! My favorite friend and I are always looking for something new to go through together!
I would love to share this devotional with my sister-in-law, who has been through many trials and whose confidence has really taken a beating.
I’m currently a part of the P31 OBS where we’re reading your book. What a great accompaniment the devotional would make for the bible study.
PS – The testimony at the beginning of Chapter 3…I would have thought you were writing my OWN story. Thanks for sharing!
I enjoy reading Renee Swope. I would love to win because I homeschool and believe me there are doubts everyday!!! I am in Gods word daily and direct my children in the same manner. There are times that is so hard though. My sister in law homeschools as well and she would so love to have one too. Thank you for this chance.
I think we all struggle with having a confident heart in this current society that we are living in. However, my concern today is for my three daughters. One in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary. They are faced with such difficult situations, especially the older two. As a mother, I pray and am constantly looking for literature or opportunities that will allow me to teach them through God “how to have a confident heart” and how to make decisions that are consistant with their values. It is hard! This book would be a wonderful asset to bring all of us together in this journey towards raising girls/women who are confident through Christ. If I could get multiple books and the dvd, it might even allow the opportunity to bring other teenage girls together to pass along the same message. Thank you for writing this book!
Would love to work through this devotional with the other ladies in my church! I think this would open many opportunities to share the Word with others!
I would love to win this for my mother in law & I. I had such a great opportunity to share what I’ve learned in my local women’s bible study with her this past Sunday in a casual conversation. She is so compelled to learn & draw closer to the Lord but doesn’t feel like she is good enough (who of us is)- it would be a great way to boost her confidence in Him & her worth in his eyes.
Thanks for this book and the OBS. I already have the book but would like to have the devotional for myself and a friend so we can grow into having a more confident heart. By the way, the friend doing this study with me is not another woman but my boyfriend. We are both learning and it just goes to show that men also desire a Confident heart. 🙂
This would be a great devotional for my two daughters and myself. We have enjoyed this ministry for some time now and have been blessed tremendously through it. God bless and keep you as you daily minister to us. You are in my prayers.
Love In Christ!
