Here’s a peek inside:
“I can’t do it all! I am not cut out to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, a speaker, a writer and all the other things God has called me to.” I had barely opened my eyes, yet I already felt beat up by feelings of inadequacy. My thoughts were against me, and my feelings were too. About that time, my radio alarm came on and my thoughts were interrupted by Twila Paris. With confident assurance, she sang truth to my soul, telling me it was not a time for fear, but a time for faith and determination. She challenged me not to lose my vision or be carried away by my emotions, but to hold on to all that I had hidden in my heart, and all I believed to be true. Then she reminded me of the most important truth of all: God is in control.1 As my thoughts aligned with God’s truth, my whole perspective changed. I went from feeling afraid to feeling determined, from feeling out of control to knowing God is in control.
Every day we have a choice – to either to let doubt beat us up or to let God’s truth build us up.
In the same way a radio has AM and FM frequencies, our thoughts do too. They are either AM (against me) or FM (for me) thoughts. Honestly, we are often our worst critics and have a lot of AM thoughts. And if our thoughts are against us, our feelings will be too. The next time you get feelings of inadequacy, stop and identify what you are thinking that is making you feel that way. Then compare your thoughts to God’s thoughts found in the Bible. Do they match? If not, find a promise in God’s Word to replace the lie that has filled your heart with doubt and start thinking about that promise. Even say it out loud and pray the words, asking God to make them true for you in that moment.
For instance, when doubt comes against you, telling you that you’re weak and all alone, focus on the truth that God is for you! You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God is with you. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
Then why not turn that truth into a prayer – claiming how much God is for you: God I’m so thankful You are for me. Because You are for me and with me, I can be strong and courageous in this situation. You promise You will never leave me nor forsake me. I’m choosing to think Your words that are for me instead of listening to the doubts that so easily come against me. You have full access to God’s power and His promises to live with a confident heart. But it won’t just happen because it’s possible. You have to take action! Just like I tuned into a Christian music station the night before, let’s be intentional about tuning our thoughts into God’s thoughts toward us, today and every day! Lord, help me remember today that You are with me to fight for me against my enemies of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When I say: Everything and everyone is against me. God says: I am for you! “What, then, shall [you] say in response to these things? If God is for [you], who can be against [you]?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

I am currently doing the online bible study and would love the devotional book. I have two close friends that we do devotional and other books together for accountability. This would be awesome for us to do together.
I tried to go out and purchase the devotional and the website said it was SOLD OUT.
Thanks for making this offer available. Thank you for being obedient to God’s lead.
I would love to win this book!! I have been looking for a good devotion book and this really speaks to me. Working on my walk with Jesus!!
I just came across this and this just what my friend & I need! She has just left an abusive relationship and this book & study would help me to help her put her confidence back on God so her relationship with Him may be restored. It would also help me to remind me that i am able to be used by God because it’s thru His strength and word I can be courageous. Thank you for this opportunity. -blessings
I’d like to win a NEW Confident Heart Devotional book for me and a friend because I am ready to live the life of faith God’s designed forme and become all He’s created me to be. I’d love to experience this with a friend or several friends who are also ready to stop letting doubt, fear, and insecurity control them. I’m ready to step out the boat and walk on water.
I have been enjoying getting the Proverbs 31 online devotionals and just recently purchased Lysa Terkuerst’s book, Unglued and the devotional that goes along with it. I would love to read a Confident Heart. I too struggle with feelings of inadequacy at times and need to learn to lean on Our Heavenly Father more. I know he is our strength, but it is easy to forget sometimes and we try to go it alone.
I have recently discovered the Proverbs site and enjoy each of the various blogs from the ladies who
write their messages. So many times they fit me exactly or a friend who I pass them along too.
I would love to win the book.
I would love to read this book as well as give a copy to my friend. We have both come from very difficult backgrounds and have had to deal with many trials and tribulations, but by the grace of God we have had each other to get through the difficult times. We both have trouble with confidence and letting go of past fear and anger, and I believe this book will help us with that.
I would love to have a copy of the devotional, but they are sold out ! When can we possibly order in the future? This looks like a wonderful tool for relieving anxiety.
I think to myself, yes I’m confident and strong… but then I read the “peek inside” portion and it brings me to reality: those are my exact thoughts. Recently my job was eliminated and I hold insurance for our family so feel a big burden there. We look at it as a blessing in disguise as I wanted to spend more time at home with my young boys. My husband is very supportive but I still have those “can’t do it all” thoughts that come creeping back. My husband farms so has been away from home for weeks and I’ve got two boys ages 3 and 1 and dealing with work issues. Everything seems to be adding up and am stuck in a rut. This book would be so helpful for me to gain perspective and keep constant confidence.
I know life isn’t always easy, but I thought what was happening to you would at least have some purpose or make some sense. Two years of underemployment living off relatives, no home, no full time jobs, no benefits, over fifty, unpaid school loan, we are hopeless about ever being on our own again. I’m glad I joined OBS and have found encouragement but it’s hard to get beyond myself and this situation to see God’s purpose in a all this. I know other people have it much worse than I do and I feel like I’m whining, but this is real and personal and I can’t find God in it. I know all the platitudes, “Wait on The Lord, Be still and listen, Do something for someone else, FROG (fully rely on God)”, etc, etc, etc. My hearts just not in it anymore.
I would really love to win this devotional book because I am a Sophomore college student and it’s so hard to be confident in my personality, my grades, my body image, a lot! I think that this book could help me calm some of these unnecessary worries that I can’t seem to make my mind forget. My friend that I would give the other devotional to was just talking to me the other day how she too struggles with her self image and would love to just forget about it and tell her self that it’s okay. We are both single too and it’s hard to feel good about yourself because so many people at my school have significant others and there is even this pressure quota of “ring by spring”, where each girl is to be proposed to by spring of their senior year. Don’t get me wrong though, because I am so blessed and thankful to be at the college I am. It’s just hard sometimes to see me as the valuable girl God sees me as.
Your ministry and book have been the water to quench my desperate thirst to grow in The Lord. When I spend time with you, your blog or book I realize I am not alone in the desert dying of thirst but thriving in the Word with my sisters in faith!
Thank you Renee!
I am in the middle of reading the book and I have gotten so much out of it. God has really spoken to me through it. I would love to have the devotional book to go along with it. I am very excited about this!
Proverbs 31 has been such an inspiration to me for several years now. I feel like each and every one of these beautiful women of God are my best friends. Thank you all! 🙂
Can’t wait to get this devotional! It sounds like just what I need.
Sounds like a wonderful book to add to my library.
This devotional sounds like it is just what my daughter and I need at this time in our lives.
This would be a great book for myself and a friend because we are both struggling with deep insecurity from some unhealthy past relationships. We are both striving to develop a more confident faith filled heart and I think this book could help guide us on this path.
This last year has been a continuous struggle with trust. I have dove into His word and learned so much but am always ready to learn more. We left the church we had served in and attened for over 30 years and this shook me to the core. I began to doubt all I knew. I hope to use the book for encouragement for my self and others.
Thanks, Debbie
